How to launch a news site: a 7-step guide
From domain to first story, take your news site live step by step.
1. Define your focus
News, local, sports or business: first decide who you're writing for and about what. A focused publication makes it easier to win readers and stand out in search.
2. Pick a memorable domain
Choose a short domain that's easy to type and says what you publish. For local news, using your city's name helps readers find you.
3. Choose reliable infrastructure
Traffic on news sites can spike in an instant. Your site must stay fast during breaking news, be protected from attacks and be backed up regularly.
With Ulakom, servers, security and backups come ready so you can focus on content.
4. Pick a template and make it yours
Start with a template that fits your publication. Add your logo, colors and fonts. With the design editor you can arrange headlines, breaking bars and news lists by drag & drop.
5. Set up categories and your team
Organize categories the way readers will look for them. Define editor, reporter and writer roles to decide who writes and who approves.
6. Set up SEO and Google News
Publishing stories with structured data, keeping your sitemap current and fast-loading pages are the foundation of search visibility. Ulakom handles these automatically.
7. Publish your first stories and reach readers
Fill the site with a few stories before launch. Then start reaching readers through social media and web push notifications.
